The isolation of chromogenic mycobacteria from laryngeal cultures.

چکیده

It is known that the cultural characteristics of strains of Mycobacterium tuberculosis isolated from tuberculous secretions may be changed under the influence of anti-tuberculosis drugs. It has been suggested that this is due to " biological disintegration" of the bacteria (Lanyi and Eidus, 1954). The process is usually a gradual one. The present report is concerned with the isolation from laryngeal swabs of a number of atypical chromogenic strains of mycobacteria presumed to be disintegrated tubercle bacilli.

Isolation and Identification of Candida Species from the Oral Cavity Using CHROMagar Candida

CHROMagar Candida is a new chromogenic culture medium that is used for the isolation and direct identification of some of the most clinically important yeast pathogens on the basis of colony colour. The aim of the study was to isolate and identify Candida species from the oral cavity with CHROMagar Candida. Samples (158) from 68 orthodontic patients wearing upper removable orthodontic applianc...

Optimized Method for Isolation of Nontuberculous Mycobacteria from Hospital Aquatic Sources

Background: Aquatic ecosystems are an important source of nontuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) that can cause different diseases in human. Since culture of mycobacteria needs long-term incubation, fast-growing microorganisms and contaminants in the environment usually prevents the isolation of mycobacteria. Here, we compare different treatment protocols and describe a method that increases the rec...

A comparison of the performance of commercially available chromogenic agars for the isolation and presumptive identification of organisms from urine.

AIMS To compare four media-UTI medium, BBL CHROMagar, CPS ID2, and Harlequin CLED-using a collection of fully characterised organisms and subsequent "field trial". METHODS Seven hundred and eighty seven fully characterised isolates (730 Gram negative bacteria, 47 Gram positive bacteria, and 10 yeasts) were used to test for accuracy of organism identification. To assess isolation rates and abi...

Isolation of mycobacteria from undecontaminated specimens with selective 7H10 medium.

Media containing antimicrobial agents have been formulated for use as an adjunct to the standard media in an effort to reduce contamination and improve isolation of mycobacteria from clinical specimens. Selective 7H10 (S7H10) was developed for use in the isolation of mycobacteria from undecontaminated material. During a 33-month period, 10,782 clinical specimens were cultured in parallel on S7H...

Direct isolation of Candida spp. from blood cultures on the chromogenic medium CHROMagar Candida.

CHROMagar Candida is a selective and differential chromogenic medium that has been shown to be useful for identification of Candida albicans, Candida krusei, Candida tropicalis, and perhaps Candida glabrata. Colony morphology and color have been well defined when CHROMagar Candida has been used to isolate yeast directly from clinical specimens, including stool, urine, respiratory, vaginal, orop...
